There seems to be a load of problems across the Spanish airports when it
comes to picking up ones car.
I had a huge problem at Alicante airport a few weeks back. I went through my
local agent as I have done on numerous occasions, the booking having been
made months ago. On presenting the paperwork at the airport, I was told it
had all been cancelled and to try another car hire as all their cars had
gone out.
This proved difficult and often all I was offered was a Smart car or a
Mercedes. Luckily SolMar gave me a Ford C Max, but it cost over £800.
A friend of mine booked a car via Murcia airport a week before arrival and
had the same situation. The car was cancelled and the same bit re a Smart
car etc. They managed to get another car the week, but paid £600.
Sorry, but there is something very fishy going on.
Anyone else been caught like this .

In the Spanish papers they say that because of "the crisis" car hire
firms have not been able to get finance for new cars, are therefore
short of stock, have not ehough vehicles to service existing
bookings and have had to cancel some of them.
Your experience would tend to bear this out. |
