Hi
I would really appreciate any first hand opinions and feedback on these
islands. We plan to stay at the campsites and our main interests are
walking, swimming, eating, drinking and chilling out in a reasonably
quiet laid back atmosphere. We aim to visit at least one, maybe two.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Paul.

Well, we stayed at Folegandros for 1 week.
The island is very relaxed.
The harbour surrounding is the best place to stay. It is relaxed, the
cleanest harbour
water from Greece (!) and some nice beaches, not crowded at all. In July
many times
we just stayed there with 10 - 20 people.

You can take a bus (10 min) to the little wite city; nice for half a day.
The harbour is nice, with fisherman coming in, two or three times a day the
ferry and
a sailing boat.
Just do it!!

From Folegandros we've left for Milos. Much more people and touristic but
nice to visit too!

I've been to Sérifos and Sifnos. For what you want to do, they are ok. Not too ran over by
tourists (yet), but then I've been there in May, what do I know? I remember them as quiet
little places, full of goats and desert beaches. Kyknos is even quieter.

I put some pics here:

It sounds much better in French, but then, everything does.

I rather like Sifnos. The first time we went there we used the excellent bus
service to get around. It's quite a large island with some good walking but
you need some kind of transport if you want to explore it all. The last time
we went (a year ago) we hired a car for a few days which was more convenient
of course and we saw a lot more of the island in a few days. The settlement
around the harbour, Kamares, is a cheerful bustling little place with several
good tavernas grouped around the waterfront, and a few shops where you can
get most things you are likely to need.

It's quite a few years since I visited to the other two islands you mention,
Serifos and Folegandros (2001 in fact), so there may have been changes since
I was there.

Folegandros is much quieter and smaller than the other two. The port where
you arrive by ferry is a rather dusty, drab, modern settlement with a few
places to stay and some rather mediocre tavernas. In my view the best place
to stay is Chora, the main settlement, which is a very tranquil shady little
place tucked away up in the hills with a few good tavernas and places to
stay, well out of sight of the sea. Regular buses and taxis travel between
the port and Chora from where you can easily walk to anywhere on the island
so there's no need for any other transport. The campsite seems to be rather
isolated, a longish walk from the harbour, and even further from the Chora so
I think you would have to be fairly self-sufficient if you stayed there.

Serifos is worth seeing if only for the Chora, the old settlement built on a
hill behind the main harbour town. It's one of the most photogenic Chora of
any of the Greek islands, I would say, and well worth visiting. The main
problem with the main town when we were there was that the main roads had not
been surfaced, so the traffic threw up large amounts of dust at all times.
This made eating outside virtually impossible - a major disappointment.
