Im excited that Carnival has started the open bar cruises! It beats the
massive bar bill we usually get of about $550 bucks for a 3 nighter. 3
Night Bahamas on Sept 18th is our first, October 11 for 7 Nights is our 2nd.
Now if the other cruise lines would just follow suit.

I did one of these once in Norfolk put on by Carnival BUT let me tell
you it was a disaster...
hard to get a drink and then when you would ask for a Miami Vice lets
say the bartender would say that will dirty several Blenders... I
thought SO WHAT....we will drink it all.... So it was not that they
made it easy for you to get a drink. One of my clients was a soda
drinker at dinner it was impossible to get a soda so her husband went
out of the dining room and fouond a bar and got one... I guess they
get a flat tip % or something and they were not happy there were a
few of these and I have not seen them since..... It did seem great on
those 2 nights to nowhere cruises, Our experience was less then
stellar.... Now on the travel agent Cruises its all inclusive and
there was no problem then... Other then so many TA's at the bar and
none in the dining room... trying to wrangle up to the bar is
something!
I do know 2 clients that Bar bills are $1200 for a 7 night.. My
goodness.. Sounds like Cyrosis of th liver! hahahahaha
Seems the person going though is a travel agent though did yuo notice
that?

There are a few travel agencies who put groups together with this option,
but Carnival does not sell this package to individuals.
As for someone running up a $550 bar tab on a 3 night cruise... at $6 a
drink, that would be 91 drinks... or 45 drinks pp... 15 drinks pp per day.
With that amount of consumption, I'm not sure show much of the cruise you
would remember. <vbg>

Excuse me but isn't $135 for a three day cruise close to around $50? |

Excuse me. Again, the $30 in tips are included. If you take out the cost
of the tips, you come to $35 a day per person.
When you consider many people buy alcohol, soft drinks bottled water, energy
drinks, glasses of wine and bar juices that are well byond $35 a day - well
to me.. its a damn good deal. We spend about $80 a day per person on all
the above.

You don't... Carnival does. 100% of the people in the group have to be
included in this program... whether they drink or not.
My objection was that you posted that "Carnival has started open bar
cruises" and that you didn't include the cost or the fact that everyone has
to participate. You made it sound like it was a new, all-inclusive program
for everyone, when in fact it has been available for years... but ONLY to
groups.
FWIW, very groups take advantage of this program because of the clause that
100% of the groudp has to participate. In every group, there is someone who
doesn't drink and they aren't going to spend $45 pp per day ($315 pp on a 7
night cruise) to drink sodas and energy drinks.
Some travel agencies book group space as an open promotion and advertise
these as "booze cruise" types of events... the main thrust of the ads
(including the original post here) is that you can drink all you want at no
additional cost, however, they (like you) neglect to mention the additional
$45 pp fee added to the fare.

Unfortunately, Your facts are wrong. You should think before you reply or

"kicker" as you would like to call it.
Our agency is grandfathered in under previous terms and prices.
So for a 3 night cruise for TIPS and open bar - your paying $135 per person
extra. Thats 5 drinks a day of just alcohol - not including the wine by the
glass which can be higher.
The open bars also cover: alcohol, soft drinks, energy drinks, bottled
water and bar juices.
Also, I just got off the Legend last week. The average mixed drink price
was at $7 - which means onboard pricing has gone up. The daily special was
at $6.50
Obviously this isnt for everyone. However, it is a nice option to have
available.
